USGA President Jim Hyler, The R&A Chairman Allan Gormly To Serve As Joint Chairmen Of International Golf Federation

Far Hills, N.J., USA (February 23, 2010) – Jim Hyler of Raleigh, N.C., the newly elected President of the United States Golf Association, and Allan Gormly, Chairman of The R&A, have been named Joint Chairmen of the International Golf Federation (IGF).

The other IGF officers are Women’s Chairman, Emma Villacieros (Spain), and Joint Secretaries, Peter Dawson (The R&A) and David Fay (USGA). The President of the USGA and the Chairman of The R&A are ex-officio Joint Chairmen of the IGF.

Hyler is in his seventh year as a member of the USGA Executive Committee, a term that has included three years as a USGA Vice President. He served as Chairman of the President’s Council for the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Open Championships at Pinehurst and was also instrumental in launching a new chapter of The First Tee in Raleigh.

Gormly has been a member of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews since 1994. He was appointed to the Finance Committee in 1997 and served until 2003, including two years as Deputy Chairman. In 2003, he was elected to the General Committee. During that term of office (2003-2007), he served one year as a trustee of The R&A Foundation and, in the subsequent three years, he was a member of the Commercial Committee, serving two years as Chairman. In September 2009 he became Chairman of The R&A.

About the International Golf Federation

The IGF was founded in 1958 to encourage the international development of the game and to employ golf as a vehicle to foster friendship and sportsmanship. Serving as the recognized international federation for golf for the International Olympic Committee, the IGF comprises the national governing bodies of golf in more than 110 countries.

As one of its main functions, the IGF conducts the World Amateur Team Championships for women and men on a biennial basis. The 2010 championships are scheduled for Argentina. The championships for the Espirito Santo Trophy (women’s competition) and the Eisenhower Trophy (men’s competition) are set for 20-23 October and 28-31 October, respectively, at Olivos Golf Club and Buenos Aires Golf Club.
