The executive board of the International Olympic Committee officially announced that Paris will host the 2024 Summer Games and Los Angeles will get the ’28 Olympics.

The two cities, which were considered the leading bids to host the ’24 Games, had already agreed to alternate as hosts and the executive board, which is meeting this week in Lima, Peru, approved the lineup.

In June, the executive board recommended golf, as well as 27 other sports, remain in the Olympics for the ’24 Games following golf’s return to the Olympics for the first time in over 100 years in 2016 in Rio. Golf was originally approved as an Olympic sport for ’16 and ’20, when the Games will be held in Tokyo. That recommendation is expected to be ratified this week in Peru.

The last time two Olympic hosts were determined at once was in 1921, when the 1924 Paris and ’28 Amsterdam Games were awarded, according to Olympstats.com. Los Angeles and Paris will join London as the only cities to host the Olympics three times.

The ’28 Games will mark the first time a U.S. city will host the Games since 2002 (Salt Lake City, Utah for the Winter Olympics), and the first Summer Games since 1996 (Atlanta, Ga.). Paris will host for the first time since 1924.

The golf venue for the ’24 Games will be Le Golf National, the venue for next year’s Ryder Cup, and if golf is approved for the ’28 Games in Los Angeles, which could happen this week, Riviera Country Club, the annual site of the PGA Tour’s Genesis Open, will host.
