Jaco Van Zyl

South Africa (RSA)

Started playing the game as an 11-year-old and turned professional at 21, having won the South African Amateur Championship in 2000. To date, he has won 13 times on his native Sunshine Tour, including four titles in 2010 alone. Came agonisingly close to his first European Tour title at the Turkish Airlines Open in November 2015, carding a 5-under par 67 in the final round only to be beaten by one shot by Victor Dubuisson. The biggest success of the season, however, helped banish the frustrations of an injury-plagued 2014, which he spent recovering from surgery on both knees. Like compatriot, Charl Schwartzel, he has a passion for flying. Started hang-gliding five years ago, and hopes to gain his pilot’s license one day.
