LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND - The International Golf Federation is extremely disappointed with the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) decision to not include golf on the sport programme for the LA2028 Paralympic Games.
The IGF’s bid, we believe presented a compelling argument on the immense benefits and contributions that golf’s inclusion can bring to the Paralympic Games, as illustrated at the two tremendously successful Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. This decision is enormously disheartening for all our athletes and membership, plus the many people who contributed to this bid, especially given the amount of work and effort that was put into it.
Despite the IPC’s decision, the IGF and our membership will remain steadfastly committed to golf being included within the Paralympic programme and developing other opportunities and pathways for individuals with disabilities to participate in our inclusive game at both the recreational and elite levels. We will continue to build upon the incredible success of the G4D (Golf for the Disabled) Tour and the U.S. Adaptive Open with the development of additional international elite golf events, such as the World Golf for the Disabled Team Championship, that will generate tremendous worldwide interest and inspire a new generation of athletes with disabilities to participate in our sport.
