Japan has a number of restrictions on medicines such as psychotropic and narcotic substances. The IGF therefore strongly recommends you to consult this summary document before going to Japan and to contact your National Olympic Committee (NOC) well in advance if you plan on taking any medication with you in order to give time to get any necessary permissions from Japan.
Do not enter the country with illegal substances, such as amphetamines/methamphetamines (Adderall), cannabis or cannabis derivatives.
In addition to the Japanese laws on importing medications and WADA's Prohibited List in anti-doping, the IOC Needle Policy and Rules applicable to Tokyo 2020 will apply.
Since the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the IGF along with the IOC and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee have been working tirelessly to replan the delivery of the Olympic Golf Competitions. The health and safety of all stakeholders remains our top priority.
The IOC and Tokyo 2020 recently released a series of Playbooks that outline the COVID-19 framework that will be implemented during the upcoming Olympic Games. These will be further updated in June 2021.
The IGF continues to monitor the situation and adapt our planning accordingly. We are in the process of finalising a Playbook specific to the COVID-19 countermeasures that will be implemented for the Tokyo 2020 golf competitions and this document will be available once policies are confirmed by the IOC, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Government of Japan and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
