Le Golf National, Paris (18th)

WATC 2022 FRANCE

The French Golf Federation will play host to the 2022 World Amateur Team Championships (WATC). The 29th women’s championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy will be held from 24th to 27th August and the 32nd men’s championship for the Eisenhower Trophy from 31st August to 3rd September 2022.

This will mark the third time the championships have been played in France. Previously, both 1994 championships were held at Le Golf National (as well as La Boulie for the Eisenhower Trophy) and the inaugural Espirito Santo Trophy competition was played at St. Germain Golf Club in 1964.

Le Golf National (Albatros course) and Golf de Saint-Nom-La- Brèteche (Red Course) near Paris, will be the courses used for the championships. Le Golf National was the site of the 2018 Ryder Cup and will also play host to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 while Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Brèteche hosted the prestigious Trophée Lancôme for 34 years.

Both championships feature the world’s leading amateurs and are played over 72 holes of stroke play. Each country is represented by a team of two or three players.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of the WATC was cancelled. The 2018 championships were held at Carton House in County Kildare/Dublin, Ireland where the USA claimed its 14th Espirito Santo Trophy, by 10 strokes over Japan.  A record total of 57 women’s teams competed. The Danish men’s team battled against 70 other teams to win their first Eisenhower Trophy with a one stroke win over the USA.

The World Amateur Team Championships are a biennial international amateur golf competition conducted by the International Golf Federation, which comprises 151 national governing bodies of golf in 146 countries, and 22 international professional tours and organisations conducting major championships.

The IGF is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the international federation for golf. In addition to the World Amateur Team Championships, the IGF also organizes the golf competitions at the Olympic Games and the Youth Olympic Games.
