A regular on the Asian Tour, he secured his first European Tour victory in dramatic fashion at the 2009 UBS Hong Kong Open, defeating Rory McIlroy and Francesco Molinari in a thrilling playoff. Having failed to hole a six-foot birdie putt to win in regulation play, he produced a stunning recovery shot over the water on the first extra hole after going into the trees with his drive. He stopped his ball six feet from the pin before sealing the title with a birdie on the next hole. In doing so, he became the first Asian in a decade to win the tournament and subsequently took up European Tour membership. Also tied third behind winner Darren Clarke at the 2008 BMW Asian Open in April. He has won a title on the Asian Tour in each season between 2006 and 2009. His father, Lin Chia, was one of Chinese Taipei’s top professional golfers, while his two brothers are also regulars on the Asian Tour.
