Data Protection & Privacy in IGF Classification

At the International Golf Federation (IGF), we recognise that classification involves handling sensitive personal data, including medical, functional, and impairment-related information. We are committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and rights of athletes, support personnel, and all classification stakeholders, in full compliance with the IPC International Standard for Classification Data Protection (ISCDP) and applicable data-protection laws.

What This Means for You

  • Purpose-limited and lawful processing: IGF processes classification data strictly for legitimate classification purposes, such as MIC assessments, sport-class allocations, Medical Reviews, Protest or Appeal handling, and classification-related research or education. We do not use your data for unrelated activities.
  • Data minimisation and accuracy: We only collect and store the personal and medical information that is necessary for classification. We take steps to ensure data is accurate, complete, and kept up to date.
  • Secure storage and controlled access: All classification data is held in secure digital systems with restricted access, protected from unauthorised disclosure, loss, or misuse. Only individuals with a legitimate classification role can access personally identifiable or sensitive data.
  • Transparent rights and information for individuals: Athletes and other data-subjects have the right to request confirmation, access, correction or deletion of their classification data, subject to applicable laws. They are informed — at the time their data is collected — about how their data will be used, who will have access, and how long it will be kept.
  • Retention and disposal policies: Classification data is kept only for as long as necessary for classification purposes. Once data is no longer needed — for example when an athlete retires or a case is closed — we anonymise or securely destroy the data in line with ISCDP guidelines.

Our Commitment to You

By applying the ISCDP and IGF’s internal data-protection policy, we commit to safeguarding your privacy while ensuring that classification remains fair, transparent, and robust.
